Is There A Cost For Bmw Motorrad Connected App

  1. First of all, this app is designed for TFT people who does not have the BMW Nav (x) gps device.

It connects up to play music, simple gps, journey tracking and bike information.

    But...wait for it....it doesn't work good.

I have connected the phone to TFT. It takes a few minutes to connect up. Too slow in my opinion. Then the Navi part sometimes work and oftentimes don't. It dies itself.

The phone part also was connected but I didn't manage to call anyone.

The Navi, when it works, works as a simple arrow based routing system.

The logging function only works if you turn on app, leave it open and enable the logging feature. How long will the battery in my Handphone last? Better be fully charged.

All in all, a less than satisfactory rating for this BMW app. A billion dollar brand which cannot get an app to work?

    Now, please share your experience.

  2. After owning several BMW cars I've learned that software isn't their strong suit. As a matter of fact, they suck at it. They're really good at the mechanical aspect of things but every car I owned had software issues that needed attention. It's not surprising to me the TFT is having issues. If things follow company history, I figure 6 months and a few software patches and problem will be resolved.
  3. I would surprised if it worked flawlessly. I own a bmw f25 x3 and connected drive app is rubbish. For TFT am going to use my android and here maps in ram mount. Though bmw has a new agreement with rever. I dont get why they dont let them develop the app
  4. The others who have posted are correct in that software isn't their strong suit however, there are a few things you can do to make your experience better. 1. I do have a nav on my bike which actually complicated things a bit until I got it all working and now it's great. 2. Make sure you update firmware on your headset as well as your phone. I have a Sena 20s rider, 10s passenger and had difficulties with both (bike wouldn't even see the 10) until I updated firmware to latest the. Voila. 3. Your model phone makes a difference. This applies more to androids than iPhone since iPhones you can update to latest os unless really old but androids can get locked into a make where you can only update based on that type build. I have helped the dealership with some customers setups and found different results depending on the phone. 4. Make sure the nav maps are downloaded to your phone so you are not using internet to update on the fly. Couple reasons for doing this but primary is the "cpu stress" a bad app can put on your phone when it is having to download and gps and send updates through Bluetooth. Taking one of those out of equation helps. 5. Some of the oddities of the current functionality can be easily fixed by app update (the fact that you can record a route but not replay it unless you connect it to rever (which works great by the way). Other functionality (such as driver and passenger even when both connected to tft don't have ability to talk to each other so you have to use the headsets to link them together for com) will have to be fixed at dealership through a tft software update. Luckily this is something that will evolve over time and should get better.. it's one reason I bought the tft because I knew it would grow and if I decided to trade up the tft would be worth more down the road than the old dash.

To address your issues, my phone is a iPhone 7 running latest, Sena 20s, and it all connects usually before I have had a chance to crank it so it's fast. What kind of phone and headset are you using as that might have something to do with it.. Music works great on mine however not having ability to control playlists or roll through albums with wheel makes it less than ideal. I agree the mapping doing turn by turn only is not the greatest however mounting your phone and wiring in so it stays on is a simple fix which is what I have done.. I typically use the garmin for big travel then if I want to find a eating place or something else as a detour I'll use the phone which is a good option. Both are mounted in view and follow whichever map I need for the moment.. the turn by in the dash is just a bonus at that point. Hope that helps

  5. I am going to stick my head out there...just buy the Nav VI and forget about the TFT playing music or doing navigation. It complicate things (and BMW needs to sort them out).

BTW, I have both. AND...I don't listen to music while riding as a habit. I also don't talk on the phone....my riding is to GET AWAY from everyone!

  6. Any news about how BMW are working to update this app?

I've send in some tips for them, via the app, to get a more user friendly app.

For example I want all my saved favourites to be shown on the map, and the ability to have a 2d map while driving.

The ride records I think is already very good,

Use it very simple. For speed limit and emergency navigation. Paired my S8 to TFT. No helmet or mic or speaker. Start the bike, after a while I see the telephone icon. Speed limit comes up and I can easily select a nav destination from history. That part works very well actually.

Can I connect any bluethooth speakers ? I want to mount two bluethooth speakers on my GSA and play music as the proud Goldwing riders. Crusin' slowly through the city main street with Ozzy playing.
